Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.
Monogram Styles Used:
The starting point for this monogram was the last initial- A. This is for a pillow. We chose the initial A from our Victorian Monogram Set 6 XL. The letter A has the potential to be very balanced geometrically, and this one looks a bit like a tent, with a segmented crossbar and straight legs that include some graceful curves.
We decided that the other two initials - F and L - should be straight and crisp to compliment the last name initial, and selected them from our Diplomat Monogram Set. The initial idea was to put them in the center, under the crossbar - sheltered under the A. From there the idea of slanting these two initials within our software so that each letter shared the angle of the leg of the A it was closest to was easy to imagine.
This arrangement wasn't quite as attractive as we expected it to be - so we tried moving the smaller letters outside the flanks of the A - as buttresses. This arrangement was more successful. Our software allows us to resize the designs to get the scale just right, relative to each other.
The overall size is 8" (203 mm) tall by 10" (254 mm) wide.
How we made these monograms
Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
