Monogram Combinations

Unique Monograms combining multiple styles.

Monogram Styles Used:

Monogram: S

This is a single letter monogram (S) for execution on oversized bath towels. We wanted something that was classic, a bit modern, and big enough to make a statement.

Our Diamond 9 XL Appliqué Monogram Set is intended to create a three-letter monogram, but the center letters are crisp, symetrical, and have an interesting slightly concave shape. They are digitized for applique, which would have also been appropriate for this project, but we wanted an "embossed" look - white-on- white.

To add some abstract interest we used the letter I from our Applique Monogram Set 5, and placed a copy of this letter on either side of the S, with the letter rotated 90 degrees so that it now functions as a double-ended arrow embellishment rather than a letter.

Skipping the applique portion of the three designs was simple- we just used the same white thread color for each of the three colors for each element (Color 1: running stitch for placement, Color 2: zig-zag tack down stitching, Color 3: Satin stitch.) We might have eliminated the first two colors in our software, but this approach was easier and added additional underlay for an even more rounded satin stitch appearance.

The overall size is 7 " (177 mm) tall by 11" (278 mm) wide.

How we made these monograms

Embroidery software programs make it easy to delete elements, copy and paste elements from other designs, resize different aspects, and merge elements together into one new design. Each program is a bit different in how the Edit functions are managed. Once you have learned to use yours, creating new monograms from other monogram parts is creative and fun. Experiment with different arrangements and colors.
