Pawn Sacrifice - 2014Movie: Pawn Sacrifice - 2014 Director: Edward Zwick Synopsis: American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) plays Russian Grand Master Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber) in this cold war drama about high-stakes chess and equally high-stakes superpower power struggles, culminating in the 1972 World Chess Championship match in ReykjavÃk, Iceland. Scene: In preparation for the match, Fischer selects William Lombardy (Peter Sarsgaard), a former junior chess champion, now a catholic priest, as his second. Lombardy defeated Boris Spassky when they were both students years earlier. Monogram: Paul Marshall (Michael Stuhlbarg), Fischer's on-and-off again lawyer/business agent/representative approaches Father Lombardy for help convincing Fischer to return to world-class chess. A carved letter V, with accent below, is part of the oak paneling in the background. Note: we haven't been able to define what this letter means in catholic symbolism, but there are plenty of online references to it as a sign of the occult.
