Twentieth Century - 1934Movie: Twentieth Century - 1934 Director: Howard Hawks Synopsis: Broadway Director Oscar Jaffe (John Barrymore) has built a successful career through sheer drive. One of his discoveries, Lily Garland (Carole Lombard) rises to major stardom, Hollywood becons, and Jaffe sees his career about to crash. Lily rebels from her mentor's difficult temperment and runs away to make movies. By coincidence, the two find themselves on the same Twentieth Century train back to New York. Jaffe seizes the opportunity to try to woo his protoge back before she marries George (Ralph Forbes). Scene: With a phoney sling on his arm - he hopes it will keep George from hitting him - Oscar tries his best with an "over-the-top" performance in Lily's stateroom. Monogram: O.J.
