The Major and the Minor - 1942Movie: The Major and the Minor - 1942 Director: Billy Wilder Synopsis: Susan Applegate (Ginger Rogers) is a NY City working girl who decides to quit her job when a client makes a pass at her. She decides to go home to Iowa - but she only has enough money saved for a child's train ticket - so she disguises herself as a 12 year old. Found out by the train conductors (sfter she is seen smoking) she hides out in the overnight compartment of hides out in the compartment of Major Philip Kirby (Ray Miland), a military school instructor. He agrees to look after her, and insists on bringing her to school until her family can retrieve her. Lucy Hill (Diana Lynn) - teenage sister of Major Hill's fiancée Pamela (Rita Johnson) - quickly sees through Su-Su's pose, but agrees not to expose her in exchange for Susan's help in engineering Major Kirby's wish to be reassigned to active duty, rather than stay on at the military school - run by Pamela's father. Scene: Susan becomes quite popular with the academy's cadets - and is invited to the school dance.
