Director: Terry Gilliam Synopsis: Blessed with an extraordinary gift for guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) has a dark secret - centuries ago he made a bet with the devil - Mr. Nick (Tom Waits) - and won immortality. Many centuries later, he made another deal, trading his immortality to win his true love. Their child is to become the property of Mr. Nick on her 16th birthday - which is rapidly approaching. Always keen for a wager, Mr. Nick makes a new one - which Dr. Parnassus will need help to win. The mysterious helper - Tony - is played by four actors: Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrel - following the death of Heath Ledger during the filming of this movie. Scene: Yet another bet - Mr. Nick agrees to release Dr. Parnassus' daughter Valentina (Lily Cole) if the Dr. will help get rid - permanently - of Tony. He is successful, and immortality is restored. Monogram: Through the centruries Doctor Parnassus has learned a few marketing tricks. No longer burdened with a large stage set, he has adapted to sell die-cut cardboard versions of his stage to children, along with faithful assistant Percy (Verne Troyer) from a street cart, decorated with the letter P.
