The Great Gatsby - 2013Movie: The Great Gatsby - 2013 Director: Baz Luhrmann Synopsis: The latest adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel. Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) is a half-hearted Wall Street bond trader in the 1920s. He rents a small cottage in fictional West Egg, which happens to be next door to a huge mansion owned by Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) - the most mysterious and wealthy man of his age. They become friends, primarily because Gatsby wants to use Nick to reacquaint himself with Nick's cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) - a lost love who is now married. Scene: Gatsby dives/falls into his barely used swimming pool while waiting to get a phone call from Daisy. Gatsby has been wrongfully blamed for an auto accident in which a woman is killed. The woman, Myrtle Wilson (Isla Fisher) is the mistress of Daisy's husband Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). Gatsby is protecting Daisy, who was the driver. Myrtle's husband comes to Gatsby's estate to shoot him. Monogram: Top: There are variations of a monogram for Gatsby throughout the movie. This one - JG surrounded by a stylized flower - is part of the tilework on the bottom of the pool. Bottom: It's often interesting to watch a movie's credits - most people get up before they roll. In this case there are variations of the JG monogram interspersed with different initials among long lists of crew members. It seems that on this film one of the perks of being a Producer is getting your monogram displayed. Contributed by: Angela Scott, Embroideryarts | |||||||||||
