Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 2011
Movie: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - 2011
Director: Guy Ritchie
Synopsis: A followup to the popular Sherlock Holmes (2009). In this movie the Holmes genre has become a full-blown action adventure, quoting other popular films along the line - A Beautiful Mind, The Matrix - to name just two. Dr Watson (June Law) gets married, Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) continues to do battle with his arch enemy Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris).
Scene: There are plenty of opportunities for period monograms in this story.
Monogram: Top to Bottom: 1. Moriarty gives Holmes a monogrammed handkerchief (intertwined initials IA) that belonged to Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams) - who has died, either from a rare form of tuberculosis, or from poison. 2. Dr. Watson and his bride Mary (Kelly Reilly) in a First Class train compartment on their honeymoon trip to Brighton. The train is Southern Railway - with elaborate embroidered S on the linen antimacassar. 3. Holmes, dressed as a woman, has created a diversion and inserted a monogrammed lipstick case (intertwined WM engraved) into a rifle about to be used to kill them. 4. A stenciled initial M with border on the cover of a box of rifles - representing Moriarty?. 5. An elaborately staged assassination to kill an arms manufacturer, Alfred Meinhard (Thorston Manderlay) who has recently been bought out by Moriarty. Holmes determines that the bomb that exploded didn't kill him. His gold ring with M initial - which matches the rifle case.
