Gypsy - 1962Movie: Gypsy - 1962 Director: Mervyn LeRoy Synopsis: Based on the 1959 smash-hit Broadway musical - domineering stage mother Rose Hovick (Rosalind Russell) is determined to make her daughter June a vaudeville star. She drags her, along with her shy, awkward older sister Louise around the country to try to get them noticed, with the assistance of agent Herbie Sommers (Karl Malden). Years pass, and June elopes with one of the dancers in their show. Rose now puts all of her energies into making Louise (Natalie Wood) the star - despite here lack of singling talent or dancing skills. They find themselves in Wichita, Kansas, nearly out of luck, when the owner of a third-rate burlesque house offers Louise a job - as a stripper. Scene: Louise has blossomed into the major star Gypsy Rose Lee - and confronts her mother and demands that she leave her alone. Monogram: The confrontation between daughter and mother takes place backstage in her dressing room - with an elaborately painted GRK design on the inside of the dressing room door.
