Trapeze - 1956
Movie: Trapeze - 1956
Director: Carol Reed
Synopsis: Brash young American Tino Orsini (Tony Curtis) seeks out once-famous trapeze performer Mike Ribble (Burt Lancaster) at the Bouglione Circus in Paris. Mike, now a tent rigger, fell attempting the dangerous triple somersault years before, and walks with a limp. Although impressed by Tino's youth and genuine skills, Mike refuses to train him for the Triple, despite circus owner Bouglione assurances that he would be interested in an act featuring Tino and Mike. Finally convinced by another circus performer, Mike vows to train Tino full time and act as his catcher. Enter Lola (Gina Lollobridgita) an Italian trampolinist, who realizes that these two will be the new stars of the circus, and sets her mind to joining the act - and romantically ensnaring one of them.
Scene: The act, despite their failure to successfully attempt a Triple in performance, attracts the attention of John Ringling North, the famed American circus entrepreneur. Lola has inadvertently become involved with both performers, while Mike, unsure of her affections, wants to drop her from the act. Meeting with the circus owner, who is worried that he will loose the act, Lola declares that she will convince Tino to sign a contract with Bouglione that would include Tino, herself, and Mike's old friend Otto.
Monogram: The circus monogram - CB - is hand painted in red and blue on the owners office windows.
