Project

Directions for Monogrammed Barbecue Apron Project/January 2004

This project utilizes letters from our Diplomat Monogram Set.

Step 1.Print the instructions.

These are .pdf files, and require Adobe Acrobat Reader software in order to view and print.
To insure printing in exact size, be sure that FIT TO PAGE (see Properties under the Print Menu) is not selected.

Step 2. Review instructions and materials required (materials list at the end of these instructions).

Step 3. Create a monogram.

We used three letters from the Diplomat Monogram Set. We chose the letter J from the larger of the two included sizes, then flanked it with the letters F and S from the smaller of the two included sizes.

In order to add a little extra drama we arranged the three letters on the diagonal. (Note: if your maximum hoop size is 4" x 4" (100mm x 100mm) you will not be able to create this arrangement in one hooping, and should consider a different arrangement of letters.)

We combined these three letters within an embroidery software program, starting with the letter J, then merging the other two letters. When you are happy with the arrangement, save the new combination under a new filename.

This project can also be done with just one initial.

Step 4. Embroider the monogram.

Hoop the apron along with one layer of medium-weight tearaway backing. Be sure that the hoop is straight with respect to the top seam of the apron.

In order to add some additional prominence to the surname initial (J) we embroidered it with a light silver-toned thread, while the two flanking letters were embroidered in a darker gray shade.

You may prefer to use the same color for all three letters.

Once the embroidery is complete turn the embroidery face down and carefully remove the tearaway backing.

Congratulations! Your project is complete
