Directions for Personalized Shoe Bags Project / June 2000 These bags will hold a pair of women's shoes or one manƒs shoe and are a welcome use for fabric scraps and remnants. Suggested measurements are included and they can easily be customized for individual needs. Pauline Richards, an embellishment
expert, publishes the Total Embellishment Newsletter, currently beginning
its fourth year. She is known for her innovative stories in SEW NEWS, Sewing
& Serger Update Newsletters and her work with several sewing machine and
trim companies. Pauline works with Linda Griepentrog, Editor of SEW NEWS as
co-director of the magazine's SEW N'Go educational shopping tours. She holds
an M. Ed degree and has 17 years of teaching experience on the high school
and college levels.
Step 1. Print instructions. These are .pdf files, and require
Adobe Acrobat Reader software in order to view and print. (The references
in these instructions to Figure 1, etc are to illustrations that are part
of the .pdf version) Step 2. Review instructions and materials required (materials list at the end of these instructions). Step 3. . Purchase pre-digitized corner designs The companion designs for this project are corner brackets in six different styles. The brackets have been laid out at the corners of a rectangle. The set includes the six design styles in rectangular layout in two sizes: 2 1/2" (62 mm) x 3 1/2" (88mm), and 2" (51mm) x 2 3/4" (70mm). Each product also contains a .txt file that can be read or printed, called "Notes". This file contains information about the number of stitches in the design, the sewing sequence of the various parts of the design, and suggested thread colors. The Product files are available in 7 different formats.

Step 4. . Merge a letter from the Monogram Set of your choice with Corner design. Combine the Corner design of your choice with the letter of your choice, then save the new combination design under a filename of your choice. Step 5.Cut the fabric into two pieces, 18" x 18" . Step 6. Determine placement of monogram , and sew out. Hoop the fabric with a stabilizer of your choice, then sew out the design. Step 7. Serge or clean finish one edge. This edge will be turned to the wrong side and form the casing (See Figure 1). Step 8. Fold the fabric right sides together. Fold the fabric right sides together and serge or sew 1/4" from the edge along the side and bottom, forming a bag (See Figure 2). Step 9. Make Buttonhole. Work a 1/2" long buttonhole 1" from the serged casing edge (See Figure 3). Step 10. Finish top edge Fold finished top edge of fabric down 3/4" to form a casing and sew along the edge. Step 11. Square Corners if desired. (See Figure 4) Step 12. Insert ribbon into casing and tie knots at the ends. Congratulations! Your project is complete. (If you use the soap to wash with, the stitching will eventually separate from the soap) Materials |
